I purchased this unit in July 2008 and I have had nothing but problems with it. The Soleus support line is always busy, and when you do get someone, they look for an answer and never call back. My front panel to control the unit does not work, and I have tried to get Soleus to replace the panel, with no luck. I have to use the remote control to use the A/C. Around 2 years of service, and the unit started leaking water. It appears the drain line for the unit is not placed far enough back, and so the water pan just drips out of the unit, right onto the floor. You can pay to have the unit shipped back and repaired they said, but the minimum charge is $150 plus shipping charges. Don't waste your money!

The unit emits a "burnt tire" smell. finally stopped smelling in the 3rd season. Friends are no longer asking, "what's that smell?"
The digital lights went out at the start of the 2nd season, so no warranty to fix.
The directional blades fell off the machine during the second season. Can not be repaired.
The exhaust hose lasted only one season, then fell apart, even though properly stored ($29 + s/h for replacement)

This gives enough height to simply plop the drain-hose into the top of a one-gallon jug (I'm using an Arizona green tea jug 'cause it's a thicker plastic and unlikely to deteriorate. Bad...

I purchased 2 of these a couple weeks ago. They were shipped very quickly. They were easy to set up. The units are small but nicely built. They cool very well and are very quite. The remotes are great and the features are better than larger units. My only complaint is the evaporation system really can't handle humid conditions very well. I started it up and within 2 hours the bucket full system went off and I had to empty the unit. After it did it again in the same amount of time,I ended up elevating the unit and puting a bucket behind it so I don't have to empty it as often. This is the only drawback from a fine little unit.

Recently we've had a heat wave here on the east coast. Unfortunately for me my fire escape is right outside my living room window and i'm not allowed to block it with anything...no plants, AC, or window fans. I figured the window kit of a portable unit wouldn't be noticable (so far i'm right) I'm on the top floor of my building so i've been told portable units will not work well with the sun beating on the roof all day.
I took a chance because sitting on a leather sofa in 99 degrees isn't fun.
I'm glad to say that the delivery was 5 days via FedEx. The unit has a long (6') hose. It also takes water thru a very small opening located on the bottom of the unit. You don't need to fill it up with the cup that came with the unit but it does help drop the temperature and keeps the noise down. Speaking of noise, the unit isn't loud but it surely isn't quiet. For my home theater I would have the volume up to 20. The max it can go up to is 50. Now with the unit on I have to put it...

Guess I'll go in order of what was important to me when buying my first portable A/C unit.

Cooling: My residence has two large picture windows facing east and I'm on the top floor of the building. Unfortunately, the unit didn't work for more than about two years before it fell apart, with the fan failing entirely. As luck would have it, I don't have the proof of purchase -- and LG therefore won't provide service under what would be a 5-year warranty. Heat pump: I turned it on in mid October. Today (December 10th), all of the lights on the front panel were blinking on and off and the unit would not turn off using the control panel power button. I unplugged it from the wall and left it sit for an hour. Plugging it back in (an hour later), the unit would run but all of the lights were flashing on and off with no control over the power.

First of all, the air conditioner leaks water from the base. I purchased one, it leaked, I returned it, and the replacement leaked as well.

In order for a portable air conditioner to work properly, it needs to have a two hose design so that one hose takes in outside air to cool the compressor and the second hose expels the hot air from the unit to outside your house. This air conditioner only has one hose that vents the hot exhaust through a window to the outside of your house. This mean it takes in cool air from inside your house and blows it outside to cool the compressor. This creates a partial vacuum inside the house, which results in warm, humid air being drawn in from the outside to fill the partial vacuum. It's Just "OK," Nothing More
I bought one of these units last year, and it does a decent (not great) job of cooling my 12x12x8 office with attached closet. It is reasonably quiet and efficient. But . . . Whoever designed the exhaust unit is either a sadist, mentally deficient, or both. One has to first connect what is essentially a dryer hose to the unit, then run it to a plastic plate and out the window. Sounds easy, right? Well, the hose slips off one end or the other all too easily, and must conform to -both- the unit and the plate at the same time! There is no easy way to adjust the fit. No easy task, especially in the heat!

If you buy this unit, I strongly suggest you set aside some time on a coooooool day before you attempt hook-up to the window. Ask someone to help. An extra set of hands is a real advantage.

Most Underlined Buyer Review : Good performer for room that can't handle window mount AC
Never having bought an indoor A/C before, I was concerned about the effectiveness of these units as compared to window mounted ones. This unit did do the job and I was very happy with it. It cooled my living room down to 72 degrees F on the hottest days thus far in NY. Installation was simple. The only con, which is probably true for all indoor ACs, is the noise. You won't want to watch TV with this unit sitting right by your side. Drainage was automatic and never an issue.
