Most Underlined Buyer Review : Worked good for 2 years
I had this 12,000 BTU air conditioner for about 2 years. It worked fine, but after 2 years it started to make a loud noise. I am looking around for a replacement motor, nobody is able to cross reference it with something else. I contacted Soleus, and all I get is a recording telling me the offices are closed, "please call back during regular business hours". I take it nobody is around to answer phones there during business hours. I am in Wisconsin where we only need air conditioning 2 months out of the year. It did not receive much use. From now on, I am probably going to go with a more popular name, and a brand I am easily able to get parts. I am not going to say my experience was all bad, I did receive two good years of service, and it did a fine job when when we had triple digit heat. I only wish it would have lasted longer, and I only wish parts were available at places like Sears Parts Direct.. or any other outlet.

Totally necessary item and worth every penny - don't go without it!
Update 2/09/2012 - everything below still holds true. I simply wanted to add that last summer, we got another AC of the same brand & size for our very large living room and made sure we had pre-ordered another bracket before installation. We have a very old house and our window sills are non-standard. We found it easier to drill a small trough for the thick cord to rest in before we installed the Support shelf but that is the only difference we had to make. Having been through some very windy and wet weather this Southern California "Winter", we are even MORE impressed by how much a difference this product makes in stability, noise reduction as well as wear & tear on the window frame. We love it! Honestly, we tell everyone we meet who is shopping for an AC not to even dream of installing it without one of these!

What a nice surprise this air conditioner is! I just bought it at Costco for $119, and there is a $30 rebate from the power company because it is energy star rated. This has every feature I could possibly want and it is quiet. I am tempted to get another one for my kitchen, which gets terribly hot. This is a great buy and I strongly recommend it. While I find the Sharp 8,000 BTU window air conditioner does an excellent job at cooling a large space, it is however, quite noisy. Even when you run it on Energy save and low fan speed it is still loud. When it cycles on, you have turn up the volume on your TV or radio in order the hear what is being said. You absolutely cannot run this air conditioner at full tilt because then you cannot be in the room with it.

Definitely, would not recommend for a bedroom at all. Best use in an area like the dining room or family room where you want coolness, but do not plan to do anything which requires other activities.

Quite disappointed since it was recommended as a quite model. Will not purchase another one for daily use. Sounds like a bus engine idling.

I live in California in the Bay Area. Not much humidity and the weather is typically pretty mild but it does get pretty hot in the summer (90+ degrees). I received the unit on a particularly hot day recently and I ran out and grabbed a bag of ice because i wanted to test this things cooling capability. I set it up next to my computer desk and turned on the cool air function. I was sitting about 5 feet from it and in 5 minutes my arm was freezing cold. I was perfectly comfortable the whole day but if i moved from the fan at all the heat was unbearable. This thing does not cool a room but it will cool the area directly in front of it. Once it cooled down a bit I emptied the water (which was made very easy due to the lightness of the unit) into my bathroom sink and used it that night as a normal fan. Works well, does the job
This AC does everything well. I have a very hot 200 square ft bedroom on the top floor of a 6 story apt building. I originally purchased 2 weeks earlier a Fredrich CP08F10 (7800 btu) which was not cool or quiet enough. (Stay away Friedrich is not what they used to be. ) This unit is very up to the task at keeping the room cool and even more important moisture removal. It does make some noise, but it is more a wind noise than a mechanical noise. I't is not easy to hear when the compressor switches on or off. Installation was easy.I took a chance with this as I could not find any reviews for this model, I took the advice of a trusted salesperson,and felt that I should write my own review. This is my first Sharp product. I would recommend this to a friend.

Installed two of these - the heavy duty and the light duty. Highly recommend you get the heavy duty, REGARDLESS of what size your A/C is. The heavy duty one is longer and provides more options for the install - the little one is shorter and isn't as flexible. Anyway, this is a great product, easy to set up, and gives you peace of mind that your A/C won't go crashing out the window. No brainer.

Most Underlined Buyer Review : Nice idea but doesn't fit a lot of apartments
This device is NOT universal.

I live in a pre-war apartment building in Manhattan. The facade is brick with drip edges around the windows - very common. This product basically does not work with this kind of wall. I bought the small one, based on the the size of our a/c unit, but the bracket was way too short and did not extend out far enough for the support arm to reach the outside wall. So I bought the larger one, which was designed for A/Cs much bigger than ours, and has a longer bracket but still it did not fit the wall. The only way I managed to get it to work was by using the longer bracket but with the support arm from the smaller one. It still is not that great but it is better than nothing. And for a grand total of over $80.. 1/3 of the cost of the a/c itself!

My advice is try to check if it works on your building. It is not easy to tell until you get it home and try to install it.

I put this in a house with crank windows only so I have no choice. I used a hole saw to cut a 5" hole through the wall, installed a dryer vent kit and hooked the output tube of this unit to it. Works great. It easily cools the entire downstairs on my house, about 1500 sq ft, even on 90+ days. The output tube flow a great deal of air, far, far more than a dryer does. It easily handles the condensate that is placed into the air flow. No leaks or accumulation anywhere. Quieter than I thought, it hums away in the corner and I can talk over it. Quieter than any window unit I have ever owned. Remote is a bit awkward. You have to hit a button a couple times to get it to recognize the remote each time, but it works. Overall very good, would buy another.

It works great but putting it together was a pain in the ass, I couldn't get the accordion like extensions to stay onto the air conditioner which you have to do to seal it completely into the window and the picture on the instructions that shows you how to do it is not clearly printed so you cant make out your ass from your elbow looking at it, finally I figured it out the hard way and got it together.
